Adrian Poynton

Adrian Poynton is a British screenwriter, playwright, stand up comedian and actor.

He is the creator and writer of BBC Three sitcom White Van Man starring Will Mellor, Georgia Moffett and Clive Mantle. It began screening in March 2011 becoming the highest rated launch ever for a sitcom on BBC3. In May 2011 it was confirmed that a second series has been commissioned, due for transmission sometime in 2012, once again with Poynton writing all the scripts. He also has a cameo as Police Officer Martin Orsom in one of the episodes.

His play, A Very Naughty Boy based on the life of Monty Python's Graham Chapman, won a Edinburgh Festival Fringe First award in 2003. It then had a national tour followed by a run at London's Soho Theatre. He is also the writer of several other plays and TV shows.

Poynton is also a successful stand up comedian having performed several solo shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Brighton Comedy Festival, Leicester Comedy Festival and many others. In 2011 after having the bad luck of accidentally being caught in four of the UKs August riots, he rewrote his Camden Fringe show overnight to make it about his experiences and performed it to great acclaim for the rest of the run. He donated his earnings from these shows to the riot clean up.

As well as touring the world as a stand up comedian, Poynton is also one of the UK's most used TV studio audience warm-ups, mostly working on sitcoms and sketch shows.
